The Founder and Coordinator of the EXCEL MINDS Academic Group, Oladimeji Shotunde, on Friday, May 3rd and Friday, May 10th, served as a guest on the Lively and Solidly Unique Campus Radio, LASU RADIO (95.7 FM).
The Radio Program is tagged "Gentlemens' Corner", with a versatile presenter, Arewa, serving as the host. It is always scheduled to hold Fridays, by 5pm.
The topic of discourse for the radio session was "Is Formal Education a Facade". The topic was quite topical and right on point, as students in Nigeria were gradually seeing Education as a waste of time, and as such, were not committing time and efforts towards attaining Academic Excellence. The EXCEL MINDS Founder, Oladimeji Shotunde, was accompanied to the program by one other EXCEL MINDS Executive, Akinmade Marcus, of which he was also given a platform to air his views on the topic of discourse.
Oladimeji Shotunde stated plainly that there is a distinctive difference between Schooling and Learning, as both concepts doesn't denote the same thing. He explained further that the actual problem lies in the fact that students mainly go to school just to "School" and not really to "Learn". He further positioned that the reason why students tend not to see the benefits of Education is because they expect the school to teach them how to make money and build wealth, whereas, a school is meant to give you the knowledge and positioning to think, be innovative, and of which the offshoot will result to wealth creation.
He further stated, making reference to Confucius, a Chinese Philosopher, that "If you want to plan for a year, you grow rice; if you want to plan for 10 years, you grow trees; but if you want to plan for 100 years, you Educate your children." This quote by Confucius, as explained by Oladimeji, shows just how much Education is pivotal to our daily co-existence in the society.
The other guests on the program made their points known, of which there were arguments and counter arguments, which further made the discussion enjoyable and enlightening.
In all, the program was able to establish that Education is not a Facade as some might paint it. Everything boils down to what we make of the Education we are given. EXCEL MINDS has always been an advocate of Quality Education, and as such, will not hesitate to correct wrong notions regarding Education in the society.
